What the deer

Filed under: opinion — Daddy Phelps @ 12:23 pm

untitledI know that people are most mad when they are mad at themselves, at least I think so.  So this morning I was really mad at myself when I almost hit a deer.

Let me break down the scenario.  By my home a new bridge just opened up.  The road leading to the bridge is wooded for the first 300 yards and as soon as you cross the bridge you are in a housing development.

It was 6:00 am and it was still pitch black outside. I turned left onto the road that has the bridge to see an oncoming truck sitting still about 200 yards up the road.  Why the hell is he just sitting there I thought to myself?  I was doing my best to ignore him when I realize he has his high beam lights on.  When I was about 60 yards away from him he finally turned off his high beams, which drew my attention from the road.  Luckily the guy turned off his high beams because I could finally see the 2 deer standing on the median of the road less than 20 feet away.

As quick as lightning, one jumped out in front of the car and I slammed on my breaks.  As soon as he jumped I heard myself gasp.  I am not easily startled, but this left a little puddle of pudding in my knickers.

The dickheaded deer made it past without ripping off my bumper and breaking out my headlight.  Thank goodness. Thank peanut butter and jelly. Thank Easter.  Thank whatever made this miraculous thing happen.

I made it through unscathed and the other deer turned and ran off the other way.  Everyone was okay.  But if I ever see that other deer or that jerk with the high beams, so help me aunt jemima, I would like to imagine me kicking thier asses.
